Friends of the tenth

In May this year we were approached by Friends of the Tenth who are dedicated to the memory and legacy of the 10th Battalion, the Parachute Regiment.  They asked if we would be able to help them with the build of a wonderful memorial for The Battalion at Burrough on the Hill, Leicestershire.

Part of the project was to landscape the area where the memorial is situated, and the landscaper specified our Breedon Golden Amber self-binding product due to it being natural and robust and wheelchair friendly.

To give a brief background, The Battalion was billeted in East Leicestershire in 1944. In September 1944, 582 men emplaned to be dropped by parachute into the, now famous, Battle of Arnhem. Only two weeks later, the ladies and Land Army girls in the village of Somerby laid on a welcome home banquet. They were shocked and horrified when only 36 men returned. The memorial was unveiled earlier this month to coincide with 75th Anniversary of The Battle of Arnhem.

We think you will agree that what has been achieved here is nothing short of incredible. The Breedon Golden Amber gravel compliments the stonework perfectly, creating a cohesive natural, hardwearing finish. All who were involved in this project should feel very proud of what they have achieved for this meaningful cause – a memorial to be extremely proud of.
